Southall Park by Amarjit Bassan

Synopsis:

A rehearsed performance of a new play by Rifco Associate Amarjit Bassan. Southall Park is a coming of age drama about two brothers. Young Sukhpal is the family saviour. He relishes his position with zeal, but when he encounters his estranged and homeless older brother Dalbir protesting the council’s destruction of a historic bandstand, it ignites in him a struggle to hold on to his principled outlook. As the one-year anniversary of their father’s death approaches, they battle to find acceptance of each other.

“Amarjit is a Rifco Associate and we have been keenly developing his play. He has a real honesty in his work and choosing to do this course is a brilliant step in honing his writing skills. He is an important new diverse voice and we urgently need more British Asian writers.”

Pravesh Kumar, Artistic Director of Rifco Arts
